From mini to maxi.1960s FASHION - Exhibition from collection of fashion historian Alexandre Vassiliev (Paris)

This collection from Alexandre Vassiliev is dedicated to the fashion of the 1960s and includes haute couture dresses from the legendary fashion houses of Chanel, Christian Dior, Pierre Balmain, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Nina Rici, Jean Lanvin, Pierre Cardin, Andre' Courreges, Guy Larosche, Oleg Cassini and Irene Galitzine. Along with these garments, visitors can also see the work of less well known fashion ateliers of the period - Anne Sorrente, Valentina, Mansfield, Lord Tailor, J.Bernardon - as well the creation of unknown designers.

Perfection in cut and sewing can be seen in the work of Pierre Balmain, Balenciaga and Christian Dior. The classic Chanel designs are still in fashion - the tightly cut dresses and skirts complemented by jackets the insides of which retain the traditional metal chain. In the Vasiljev collection this is confirmed by costumes in the Chanel style by Ein Fink Modell and Wurmser.
Graphic  floral motifs were in fashion at the end of sixties and this can be seen in the collections of garments by Jean Lanvin and Anne Sorrente. Alll the fashion trends of the time are demonstrated by unique gowns from the wardrobes of two 1960s stars - Leslie Caron and Natalya Fateyeva, as well the dresses owned by two celebrities of the first wave of Russian emigration - cabaret singer Ludmila Lopato and the duchess Olga von Kreuz. Apart from the gowns and garments, the now rarely encountered accessories of the day  help to conjure up the atmosphere of the period - hats, shoes and handbags created by famous names.
The show is a rare opportunity to view unique exhibits from the Alexandre Vassiliev garment collection. A similar exhibition has been seen in Sydney, Istanbul and twice in St.Petersburg. A visit to this exhibition will be very interesting and pleasent for Riga inhabitants and visitors alike.
