Auseklis Baušķenieks: A Centenary Exhibition

Auseklis Baušķenieks (1910 - 2010) is one of the most original Latvian artists of the 20th century.

Modest in life, a vehement and tempestuous figure in art - this is how A.Baušķenieks is know to friends and art lovers. As an optimist with sence of humor, a man full of checrfulness he is excellent company to talk to. To be famous and to remain unknown - this is Auseklis Baušķenieks' credo.

Auseklis Baušķenieks is undoubtely an artist whose depth  of feeling is hidden and strictly organized in his work. His art is built on content, with composition and colour subordinate to it. The artist makes use of a wide range of pictoral means to achieve his end. He is successful in eliciting the viewer's admiration  for the  content. The artist claims that his works are genre scenes. They may be attributed to the medium of figure composition, as well. Irrespective of the genre which a certain piece tends to be ascribed to the artist is always sure to charge his works with meaning which is most important.
